Why your roofing site ranks for the wrong city (and how to fix it)
Most roofers dominate their home town and vanish everywhere else. Here is the service-area structure that fixes it without doorway pages.
The "home town" trap
You rank #1 for "roofers in your city" and nowhere else. Every neighborhood you serve, every suburb you drive to, every storm you chase — invisible.
The cause is almost always structural: one city page, a Google Business Profile pinned to your office, and service-area text buried in the footer. Google has no signal that you actually work the next town over.
Service-area pages done right
A real service-area page is not "we serve Austin" copied 40 times with the city name swapped. It is a page that proves you work there: recent jobs, the neighborhoods you cover, drive times, and the storm context specific to that area.
Build one page per real service area — the towns you actually drive to — and link each to the relevant service types. Keep them distinct, keep them honest, and Google will reward you for the depth instead of flagging you for doorway content.
What to measure
Track impressions and calls per service-area page, not just total traffic. When a page earns its first call, that is the signal it is working — double down with a review request and a case page for that town.
Put it into practice.
